Hungary Explained: Klára Dobrev
Klára Dobrev is a politician, Member of the European Parliament and wife of former prime minister of Hungary Ferenc Gyurcsány.
She is the granddaughter of Antal Apró, a high-ranking communist cadre.
After a career in law and finance she took on political positions. It was in this capacity where she met Ferenc Gyurcsány. Those close to the Gyurcsánys believe that Ferenc Gyurcsány’s career took momentum after he married Klára Dobrev. She is known to be well-educated and highly intelligent. Her role is somewhat similar to Hillary Clinton’s. She is about as popular outside of her party as Hillary Clinton is outside hers.
